Blog aggregating idea that needs to be evangelized

See this post here: http://weblogs.asp.net/cstewart/posts/43558.aspx

The website he’s talking about is here.

This is why I hate blog aggregating sites. There are very few of them that allow the blogs participating in them to only publish selected categories. So you end up inundated with posts that are not related to what the aggregate site is dedicated to.

Ideally, they would have functionality built in that would allow you to specifiy different RSS feeds for different categories of posts, or manually configure RSS metadata with keywords or by assigning blog categories to different RSS feeds. Imagine being able to give out a RSS URL to blog aggregate sites that looks something like this: "http://myblog.com/rssByCategory.aspx?cat=AllDotNet" or something similar.

Wonder if anyone has thought of this before?

It would be pretty easy to do for a database driven blog. I’m sure I could get it going here w/o much difficulty but GeekLog is open source. Blogger isn’t and I’m not sure about the more popular .NET blog applications.
