Scoble: My dinner with IE

Robert Scoble had lunch with the IE dev team lead. Then he asked for feedback for the IE team. He’s gotten one or two comments. I have a far simpler request.Stop making IE and yank it out of Longhorn. Provide a link to Firebird, Opera, Netscape, any other browsers out there. Treat the browser like you do the Java VM. Move the IE dev team over to the Longhorn RSS/XAML teams or whatever. If it’s too hard or it costs too much to do thing correctly, then stop trying to do them. If you can’t compete with a bunch of people writing a rendering engine for free, then stop trying. “A point to the folks who are simultaneously asking for more DOM/scripting support and better security. Do you realize those are nearly contradictory requests?”If you think that enhanced scripting/DOM support and enhanced security can’t be done, then get out of the business of trying to do it. Gecko manages to do it, so does Opera. It sounds like, from the Tantek comments and the comments that Robert posted from his lunch with Dean that the IE team screwed the pooch in terms of architecture early on. “It’s too hard to do that”, “Do you know how much time/money that would take just to change that?”, etc… I’ve been there. I feel their pain. If that’s the case, it might be better to cut your losses and concentrate on the OS.
