DRM

I’m as cynical (probably more so according to my wife and friends) as any of you commenting here but I took the plunge and installed WMP 9 and iTunes on my machine. I’ve always liked the idea of being able to buy a single song and play it. Now with the WalMart music section and iTunes, I can. So far the DRM hasn’t affected me in a negative way. But the instance it does, for example if I try to play an old MP3 file and it tells me that it could not find the license for that music file so it won’t play it, I’ll start looking for way to break it.
BTW the cat is already out of the bag as far as non-DRM music formats, there’s MP3 and Ogg. So I retain my fair-use rights by burning my DRM music to an audio CD and then ripping it straight to MP3. I don’t even care if there’s a limit to the nuimber of times I can burn a track to CD because I’m only going to do it once. So far, Apple and WalMart have gotten it right.
