Why do people subscribe to the main weblogs.asp.net feed
DUH! Because ALL of the blogs.msdn.com and weblogs.asp.net feeds are aggregated there. If people don’t subscribe to the main feed, they have a much smaller chance of discovering when someone new and interesting to them starts blogging at the site. As big of a pain in the ass as that main feed is, if it weren’t for that every friggin’ blogger there would feel it necessary to annouce a new blogger. Which means users would see a bunch of “hey, so-and-so is blogging.” posts every time someone new started. Bleh.
In my opinion, the biggest problem here is that Microsoft took over a community site, weblogs.asp.net, without anyone really thinking through how the system, .Text, works and how it would scale given their ambitions.
