dotNetRocks == best of breed.
Man, I’m listening to all of the “podcasted” audio shows that are popping up like pimples on a teenagers face lately and they really make me appreciate dotNet Rocks and the job that Carl Franklin and Rory Blyth are doing. The Trade Secrets show by Dave Winer and Adam Curry are painful to listen to (sorry Dave if you see this). The Daily Source Code from Adam is even worse (Adam I don’t know you from Adam (har) but sorry). IT conversations is a little better, but the Gilmor Gang is really, really dry and uninteresting.
For a while I was really resistant to the idea of the dotNet Rocks show. It was just a little too much “suck up” and seemed to have a very smug tone to it. As if, by virtue of being .NET developers, they were the ultimate in development and all other platforms were absolute crap. That seems to have softened the longer the show has been going, IMO. I don’t listen to every show now, I don’t listen live on Friday nights (hey, broadcast time in EST is happy hour here in PST
) . I think the platform bashing (mainly Mac, Linux, and Java) is pretty stupid. I fast forward through the music. But I do still listen. I do review the site and see who the latest guest was, then decide whether or not to listen to it. The latest one with Fritz Onion was a great show and worth a listen if you’ve read his books. The Charles Petzold show is another favorite of mine just because I haven’t seen many interviews with Mr. Petzold.
