Jim and Chris don’t get it
seattlepi.com Microsoft Blog: Google Desktop reaction
Google – it’s my *desktop*
I’m With Jim: X1 Rocks
The interface rocks because it integrates with the online site. It’s seamless. Ok, there’s a little seam but it’s stitched really, really well. You know it’s a high quality seam. It’ very much inline with Googles idea of a network computer. Now, searching your computer is just like searching the web or the newsgroups, or the news headlines, etc… You don’t have to learn yet ANOTHER interface and it’s quirks. You’d think two MS guys would get the importance of integration.
I’m also seeing a lot of “Why do I have to use IE to search my desktop.” Well, you don’t. If you’re using XP and you have Firefox/Mozilla set as your web browser, Google desktop opens up a new instance of Firefox/Mozilla instead of IE. HTMLHelp team take note. It uses the DEFAULT web browser for the user INSTEAD of just opening up IE.
