Great timing for a Cocoa SIG
Rhonabwy: October 2004 Archives
Wow, I had almost forgotten about the Cocoa SIG that is starting up tonight at the Apple store in U-Villiage. It turns out that I’m going to that store tonight to buy my first ever Apple computer. I’m going to pick up one of the new iBooks.
I started programming on the Apple II+ computers that my elementary school had, but this iBook will be the only Apple computer I’ve ever owned. Why did I choose to buy an Apple as my next computer instead of a Wintel laptop? I’m a windows developer, been programming on the Windows platform for close to 10 years now. I got tired of dealing with Windows at home. Every new OS upgrade seems to degrade my system performance just a little bit more. I figure I’ll try getting tired of a new platform. I don’t care that much about games since I got tired of being on the upgrade treadmill. I’ve got a GameCube and an XBox to satisfy all my gaming needs. I’m pretty well versed in Linux, so getting around in the Mac OSX system should be pretty easy for me. I don’t expect that there will be a big transition time for me. I’ll still have my windows box around. The only time I really need my Windows box is for synching my Palm Pilot to MobiPocket or AvantGo.
