Tablet PC – better than the last time I tried it
I recently attended a geek dinner over at the Crossroads mall. Scoble was there and we briefly revisited my earlier discussion about whether or not the Tablet PC was suitable for taking notes during Chem class. (Revisiting means Scoble said “Yeah, that’s bullshit. You should try this one and see for yourself”. Seeing as how most of my family is from Missouri, I had him “show me”). It was able to keep up with me just fine as I drew a couple of carbon chains and some ring structures of indeterminate structure. (meaning I couldn’t remember the exact structure of A,T ,C , or G off of the top of my head. I think I got close to cytosine, but without the nitrogens in the ring) In fact the only problems I had drawing in OneNote had to do with the stylus. I kept hitting the button on the stylus. Robert said they have a much better third party stylus that is bigger. Another interesting feature of OneNote that he pointed out was the ability to tie the built in microphone/recorder to drawing on the tablet. As you drew, either on a new line or if you specified a point, it would create a new “recorded note” (best way I can think to describe it). Meaning you could playback what the speaker had said at the point you took that particular note. Pretty handy for lectures. I’m still not sure if a Tablet PC would work for me, but that may have more to do with me than with the TabletPC.
