Scobleizer: Microsoft Geek Blogger: “Om Malik reports a rumor that NewsGator is buying NetNewsWire.”

Man, I’m conflicted about this. On one hand, Brent Simmons seems like one of the good guys and I’m happy if this rumor is true and he makes out like a bandit. He deserves it. On the other hand, I’ve come to expect a certain level of polish and finish when it comes to NetNewsWire. If Brent ceases to maintain the code, I’ll probably be stuck at version 2.01 since I won’t want to upgrade if he isn’t involved.

update Well looks like it’s true, but Brent is going to be joining NewsGator and continue development on NetNewsWire. That’s good. But it also means that I’ll probably loose what little synchronization I had with Bloglines. Which means I’ll probably have to dump Bloglines and go with Newsgator online. Existing NetNewsWire owners will get a free 2 year subscription to the premier online version of NewsGator. I bet a lot of NetNewsWire owners will end up dumping Bloglines. Which is too bad for Bloglines. They have a really good service. It “Just Works”, which is a nice thing to do in this day and age.
