Amazons Mechanical Turk == Google Answers + Other Stuff

::HorsePigCow:: life uncommon: Amazon’s Mechanical Turk: “Amazon has a new service called Mechanical Turk whereas actual people can assist in identifying the validity of photographs and make money for it (looks like an average of about 0.03/hit)…then you can collect cash or apply it to your Amazon account.”

(Via Tara Hunt.)

I missed this Mind Camp demo, but I’ve read a lot about it. Anyone else remember “Google Answers”? When I heard the turk idea, this was where my thoughts immediately went. My first thought was, “Is there anything that a company can come up with that Google HASN’T already done in some form?” (The answer is of course “yes”).

I like the idea of “distributed artificial AI”, but it also feels a little “Matrix like” to me. How many “hits” do I have to perform to buy a new book on Amazon? When will Amazon just plug into my frontal lobe and give me a feeding tube? :)
